The reinterpretation of history to wave aside the endless violence and blood and gore (which was a major factor in driving the oppressed of the past into the more welcoming arms of Christianity relative to the pagan reality) to seek out some kindly and apparently more liberating paganism is, well, fascinating.

Even the very watered down, kindly Vicar of Dibley couldn't be made today. And there is something to be said that any time a Christian character is featured in a movie or TV program, the person is always going to be a) the bad guy, b) deeply hypocritical, or c) extremely repressed and whose repression contributed to the problem at hand. It's become so trite.
