During the summer of 2020 an academic friend, whose politics I would describe as liberal but anti-woke, got so into watching Tucker Carlson Tonight that his girlfriend banned him from playing it without headphones. One day, he was in the shower when his other half shouted at him that she could hear ‘that man’ again, and to turn it off. He protested that he wasn’t watching anything, but she insisted she could hear it. When my friend finally got out of the shower, he realised that Tucker’s voice was coming from the builders outside.
